I cleaned out the boys room the other day....they each have a little basket on shelf with odd and ends. And by odds and ends I mean "junk"......erasers, pencils, plastic toys, silly bands, and more. I think every mother knows what I am talking about....the little things that get collected, played with for a moment, and then put in the basket, never to be played with again. So, the other day while both boys were in school I "cleaned" out the basket. OK, yes, I threw most of the "junk" in the trash. Later that evening I put the trash out on the back porch. The trash bag never made it to the trash can....it ended up being dinner to some raccoons. The next morning trash was everywhere. Before I had a chance to clean it all up, Tyler looked out and noticed the trash. He went outside to examine it and guess what he found???? You guessed it.....all of his "treasures aka junk". I knew I was busted!!!! He ran in to get Ryan to show him all the things I had thrown away. What proceeded was the back door opening and closing and each time they would show me a "treasure" I had thrown away and would say, "mommy why did you throw this away? This is my favorite toy?" And they would show me a plastic frog or a broken silly band!!!! I peeked out a little while later and found they had filled up a grocery sack full of all the "treasures" and proceeded to hide it in their fort. Now, the "junk" is back in the basket.......not being played with since that afternoon. That's OK, one day next week I will clean out the basket again and they won't miss any of it.....ten bucks it takes them at least a month to realize their "treasures" are gone....even if they notice them missing at all!!!!
